TTA

Day 1 (04/03/11):
My Footprint Counts

This morning we spent some time exchanging introductions with Whaea Jeanette.   We discussed in brief, e-Learning and ICT then watched a short video about what students in the United Kingdom had to say.  Here are our reasons why we believe ICT is Fun in Learning (NB - Click on the image to enlarge the view):

Nine students also completed an online ICT capabilities survey that Whaea Jeanette created. Here are the results for two areas that we'll be focusing on. (NB - Click on the images to enlarge the views):

Digital Photography in Powerpoint

Our school has 14 brand NEW digital cameras and we were privileged to use them today.  Whaea Jeanette talked first about the responsiblity of using and owning a digital camera, ensuring the camera had a case, SD card, the correct cords and of course batteries (rechargeables preferred).

She then spoke about the three elements of great photography being:
1. subject matter
2. light
3. composition
and shared a series of four digital photography based tasks:
  • Five Important Things About Me
  • 6 Word Digital Memoirs
  • I Spy
  • Theme Scavenger Hunt
We had to choose three tasks and self-manage completing them through the course of the day.

Whaea Jeanette also spoke about using Powerpoint to present information, the criteria for each task and areas we'd need to consider.  A copy of that information follows:

Back in the senior block, we spent quite some time uploading photos.  The laptops needed to be re-charged, so two units of COWs were swapped over.

Our presentations have since been group together, saved as tasks in pdf files and uploaded to this blog via the web2 tool Slideshare.  Take a glimpse at our final efforts (NOTE - Slideshare could take some time to load and may not be supported by Mac/iPad):

Early finishers were also given a video task using the digital camera. Two students managed to rehearse the activity, 'I Have a Dream', however no recordings were kept.

Our day came to a close with circle time using reflective sentence starters.  A few words of thanks were also shared with Whaea Jeanette.
